A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving and hit and run Monday evening, with help from a police dog, after allegedly hitting a guard rail on McGregor Drive and then running from the car and hiding in a brush-filled gully, police said.
The incident began about 4:40 p.m., when a state park ranger saw two people running from a car that had struck a railing near Park Avenue, Capitola police said.
The ranger nabbed a man who had been a passenger in the car, while the driver ran into a gully in New Brighton State Beach, Sgt. Cliff Sloma stated in a news release.
A Capitola K-9 unit found the driver, but she refused to come out, despite several warnings, Sloma stated.
The dog removed Kathrin Gibbons from the gully, and officers arrested her on suspicion of hit and run, drunken driving, resisting arrest and for a parole violation, he said.
